Dr. Jose Sainz leads the program in the Universidad de Deusto in Bilbao, a busy, friendly, and delightful city within the Basque country around the coast of northern The country. The College of Deusto is situated in the middle of the town, offering students a distinctive experience concentrating on Spanish courses, business studies, or interdisciplinary studies programs in a number of subjects. In this 5-week program within the summer time, visit a number of Spain’s most breathtaking metropolitan areas and attend cultural occasions, such as the world-famous Running from the Bulls in Pamplona. Start your amount of time in The country having a three-day tour of Madrid and Toledo or Segovia. Go to the attractive Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Experience day journeys to seaside villages including Bay of Bizcay, Urdaibai Nature Reserve, and San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. Make historic appointments with Gernika and Mundaka, San Sebastian, San Mames Soccer Stadium & Museum. Participate per day visit to Pamplona to determine the important from the Bulls and visit nearby San Sebastian. Experience an excursion to Santillana de Marly, including city tour and trip to Altamira’s Neo-Cave Prehistoric Works of art and Exhibition Center. Interdisciplinary Studies participants will be a part of additional field encounters for example company visits.

Accommodations

Students may choose from home-stays and accommodations within the Universidad de Deusto dormitory, Colegio Mayor Deusto. Home stays incorporate a single room, three meals, laundry, bedding, towels, and incoming telephone calls in your home of the local family. Residence halls provide individual bathrooms, three meals, bedding, towels, laundry facilities, a library, study room, TV room, computer lab, and gym. Free Wi-FI can also be available.

Coursework

Students may study either Spanish OR Interdisciplinary Studies. Students studying Spanish may earn 3 to 9 course credits in the following course options (adopted by UMW equivalent course):

  • Spanish IV (SPAN 202)
  • Spanish Culture and Civilization (SPAN 315)
  • Umw in the country Intro to

  • Spanish Conversation (SPAN 318/415)
  • The country in Europe (SPAN 320)
  • Intro to Hispanic Literature (SPAN 327/328)
  • Spanish Lit: twentieth century (SPAN 323/324)
  • Advanced Spanish Grammar (SPAN 413)

Students studying Interdisciplinary Studies may earn 3 to 9 course credits in the following course options:

  • Spanish III (SPAN 201)
  • Spanish IV (SPAN 202)
  • Worldwide Business (trained in British)
  • Society and Economy in Contemporary The country (trained in British)
  • Spanish for Business and Worldwide Relations (trained in Spanish)

UMW in The country participants may also satisfy their Experiential Learning or Global Inquiry general education requirement. Individuals who complete SPAN 201 and 202 will fulfill the Language general education requirement.

Needs

Prerequisite for that Spanish Studies program is SPAN 101 and 102.  There’s no prerequisite for that Interdisciplinary Studies program. Students must conserve a minimum 2.5 GPA to be able to participate. Spanish proficiency is suggested although not needed. The program is available to all UMW students no matter major UMW students should have completed 12 or even more UMW course credits. According to UMW credit transfer policies, a C grade of above is needed for courses trained abroad to transfer to UMW. This program can also be available to non-UMW students.
